Included usage and billing

How Pro's $20 of included usage, end-of-month usage billing, spend budgets, and failed payments work.

Pro is $20 per month, paid at the start of each month, and includes $20 of usage. Usage past your allowances is charged at the on-demand rates. The plan covers the first $20 of those charges each month, and the rest is billed at the end of the month. Hobby is free and never billed: see Plans for what happens when a Hobby allowance runs out.

Your monthly invoice

Each Pro invoice bills the plan for the month ahead, upfront, and usage for the month that just ended, by product category.

The Upcoming invoice card estimating $52.69: the $20.00 Pro plan for Nov 9 to Dec 9, and $32.69 of usage for Oct 9 to Nov 9 made of Edge Network, Functions, Cache & Images, and Builds charges minus $20.00 of included usage

Included usage covers the first $20 of each month's usage charges

The Usage page shows what each project, product, and region contributed, with an estimate for the rest of the month. The Billing page shows the upcoming invoice, your payment details, and past invoices.

If usage charges grow large partway through a month, Easel may invoice what's accrued so far early. The end-of-month invoice then covers only the rest.

Upgrading and downgrading

  • Upgrade to Pro: starts as soon as payment goes through. You're charged $20 that day, and your monthly cycle restarts from it. There's no proration.
  • Downgrade to Hobby: takes effect at the end of the month. That month's usage is still billed on a final invoice, with no plan charge.

Spend budget

On Pro, you can set a monthly budget for usage charges under Spend management on the Billing page.

The Spend management card with a $50 monthly budget, a bar showing $18.40 of usage charges so far and $32.69 estimated by Nov 9, email alerts on at 75% and 100% and off at 50%, and Pause sites at the budget switched off

The budget counts usage charges after the included $20, not the plan fee

  • Email alerts: each mark you turn on sends at most one email a month, to workspace owners and the billing email.
  • Pause sites at the budget (off by default): when usage charges reach the budget, sites stop serving and deploys are blocked until you raise or remove the budget, or the next month starts.

Failed payments

If a payment fails, Easel retries it over about two weeks. The Billing page shows a banner with the next retry date and a Retry payment button. If the invoice is still unpaid after the last retry, the workspace pauses until you pay it.
